Being a physical therapist is not only an excellent premed career, it is also a lucrative job on its own. Note, however, that you cannot just practice physical therapy when you want to and where you want to. If you are aiming to work in Vancouver, Canada, you need to be a registered member of its physical therapy regulatory body. Otherwise, your practice is completely illegal in the province. Hopping on to another province in Canada will require you to do the same, that is to register with that province's regulatory board for physical therapists.

Duties of a physical therapist

Just like doctors, physical therapists will have to examine the patient's medical history before proceeding to any sort of treatment. Other duties of physical therapists include:

- Testing the different aspects of a patient's motor function, including strength, posture, and coordination
- Testing patient's respiration
- Assessing patient's capability to work on his or her own after an illness or injury - Developing and applying treatment strategies

Required education and skills

You must have a degree in physiotherapy or in physical therapy. A master's degree or doctorate in physical therapy will give you an advantage. You must be good at chemistry, physics, and biology. You must also be physically strong enough to handle your patients.

In Vancouver, physical therapists may earn competitive annual salaries. If you have a doctorate degree and if you had more training and experience, you can expect a higher salary.
